„Two years ago, almost to the day, O’Reilly Network published my first article, Introducing ModSecurity. ModSecurity was stable and useful before the article went out, but it was not widely known. The publication of the article marked a new phase in the life of ModSecurity, introducing it to a much wider audience. As I write the second article, I can’t help but feel another phase is about to start. I feel we are entering the phase of maturity.

ModSecurity 1.9 was released in early November 2005, more than a year after the previous stable release, version 1.8. The delay between the two releases was much longer than I had anticipated. Looking back, I really should have released 1.9 back in April, but it so happened that I skipped that release and continued adding new features. This resulted in a release that contains double the features and more than a 40 percent increase of the source code size.
This article describes the most important new features in ModSecurity 1.9. This is somewhat difficult to do, because there are so many of them, but I have decided to group the enhancements into three major areas:
Rule engine enhancements
Real-time audit log aggregation
Stateful request monitoring“

Gestern wurde die Version 4.2 von der Verschlüsselungssoftware TrueCrypt veröffentlicht. Der Changelog findet sich hier.

Die Highlights der neuen Version:

Ability to create a ‘dynamic’ container whose physical size (actual disk space used) grows as new data is added to it. (Dynamic containers are pre-allocated NTFS sparse files).

New Mount Option: ’system‘. It is possible to place paging (swap) files on a TrueCrypt volume that is mounted with this option enabled. Thus, it is possible to use TrueCrypt to on-the-fly encrypt a paging file.

It is now possible to mount a single TrueCrypt volume from multiple operating systems at once (for example, a volume shared over network), provided that the volume is mounted as read-only under each system

Command line argument buffer is now wiped upon exit

Da kann die Wikipedia wirklich begeistern und bringt uns einen Schritt näher an den Reiseführer, den wir aus dem Buch Per Anhalter durch die Galaxis von Douglas Adams kennen:
,,In vielen der etwas lässigeren Zivilisationen am äußersten Ostrand der Galaxis hat der Reiseführer „Per Anhalter durch die Galaxis“ die große Encyclopaedia Galactica als Standard-Nachschlagewerk für alle Kenntnisse und Weisheiten inzwischen längst abgelöst. Auf moderneren Handys (Smartphones) mit echten Webbrowsern kann die Wikipedia problemlos direkt verwendet werden. Der Browser Opera ist für viele Systeme verfügbar und das Opera Small Screen Rendering (SSR) erzielt sehr gute Ergebnisse bei Wikipedia-Seiten.
Auch auf PDAs mit Windows CE und Pocket PCs lässt sich Wikipedia mit dem Internet Explorer direkt verwenden. Dort eignet sich das Default-Stylesheet nicht sonderlich gut zur Anzeige, da die Mittelspalte zu schmal dargestellt wird. Als angemeldeter Benutzer kann man in den Wikipedia-Einstellungen das Problem beheben, indem man ein Skin ohne Seitenleiste (Nostalgia) auswählt oder bei den Skins Standard oder CologneBlue die Seitenleiste deaktiviert.
Darüberhinaus gibt es von externen Anbietern die Wikipedia auch in mehreren speziellen PDA- und Handy-Umsetzungen, zum Offline- und – einen Internetzugang vorausgesetzt – auch zum Online-Lesen und ggf. auch Schreiben.“
