83 Beautiful WordPress Themes You (Probably) Haven’t Seen | Smashing Magazine

„Sometimes it%u2019s just like searching for a needle in a haystack: if you%u2019ve ever googled for free and quality WordPress Themes, you know exactly what we%u2019re talking about. Most designers love to create WordPress themes, so they can demonstrate the quality of their work and add some fresh works to their portfolios.

However, most WordPress themes are either used too often (Kubrick theme, now K2, is definitely overused) or just have nothing to offer – particularly, if you are looking for a free, impressive and professional design. However, sometimes search is worth it. In the gallery below you%u2019ll find 83 free WordPress Themes you probably haven%u2019t seen yet. All themes offer quality, elegance and a user-friendly interface.“

Mac Tip: Add shortcuts to Finders toolbar – Lifehacker

„Mac user Tim Gaden posts a simple – but useful – trick to make applications, folders and documents you use often available in the Finder toolbar.

Simply drag and drop the icon onto the Finder toolbar to dock a quick shortcut there. Handy for quickly opening files in a non default application (like a config file in a text editor) or quickly filing documents, you can set more options in the Customize Toolbar dialog (right-click on the toolbar to get there.)“

Shell Tray Info – Arrange your system tray icons – The Code Project – Free Tools

„The Tray Icon Info application lets you enumerate your system tray icons and rearrange their positions, so that you can have your more frequently used icons positioned to the left most side (or right most depending on your personal preference). I wrote this as I got used to having the MSN Messenger icon on the left most side of the tray and found it annoying and inconvenient when newly added icons pushed it to the right. I had to exit and restart MSN Messenger to reposition it where I wanted. This application simplifies things for me.“

JDarkRoom

„JDarkRoom is a very simple full-screen text file editor with none of the usual bells and whistles that might distract you from the job in hand.

The development of JDarkRoom was heavily inspired by DarkRoom, an implementation of WriteRoom (which is a Mac-only application) for Windows, but DarkRoom requires the Microsoft .NET framework. I decided to create my own implementation in Java for those that prefer not to use .NET.

I have now released JDarkRoom under the umbrella of CodeAlchemists. Please donate if you find this software useful – it encourages me to add features and fix bugs.

Features

* Change your colour preferences – via the settings screen (F6)
* JDarkRoom remembers the file that you were working on last time
* Support for central-european character sets
* JDarkRoom notifies you if you might have forgotten to save your changes
* Word/line/character count (Ctrl-L)
* Specify a file on the command-line for JDarkRoom to open it at startup“

How to do a Clean Install With Vista Upgrade DVD

„Its bad enough that with Vista users are expected invalidate their previous Windows XP key (Well Microsoft does that for you – how nice!) when installing Vista, but Microsoft also refuses to users do a clean install of the new OS. Vista REQUIRES a user to install Vista over Windows XP is they have an upgrade version. Not Fair! To make the playing field even there is a LEGAL workaround that allows users to perform a clean install, with NO PRIOR OS on the hard drive. Although there are a few steps, it is very simple to use this loophole.

Just follow these steps:

* Boot from the Windows Vista Upgrade DVD and start the setup program.
* When prompted to enter your product key, DO NOT enter it. Click %u201CNext%u201D and proceed with setup. This will install Windows Vista as a 30-day trial.
* When prompted, select the edition of Vista which you have purchased and continue with setup.
* Once setup has been completed and you have been brought to the desktop for the first time, run the install program from within Windows Vista.
* This time, type in your product key when prompted.
* When asked whether to perform an Upgrade or Custom (advanced) install, choose Custom (advanced) to perform a clean install of Vista. Yes, this means that you will have to install Vista for a second time.

Annoying that you have to install Vista twice, but it%u2019s not fair that Microsoft restricts the ability to do a clean install.“
